Alpaca's new Fix With AI function eliminates another layer of site management inefficiency
We're delighted to unveil version 2.0 of Alpaca, with a feature which seemed like science-fiction a few months ago: Fix With AI.
Alpaca was born from the idea that WordPress knew more about the context of a website problem than any user.
By capturing all the contextual detail as part of the initial issue report, agencies could eliminate the need for a clarification conversation - and engineers could start work immediately on a solution.
But when we peeled back that first layer of inefficiency, we saw there was potential to go even deeper.
We are living through a revolution in software development practice, powered by Artificial Intelligence.
AI's super-power is its ability to hold an extraordinary amount of context, and reason across it simultaneously.
So if Alpaca supplies context, and AI demands context - could we hook them up together, to automate another step in the issue resolution process?
Alpaca's new Fix With AI function does exactly that, turning issue reports into draft code fixes with a single click.
It uses your WordPress site's existing AI connections to assemble all the context of a reported issue into an agent-ready work request.
This is passed to an AI coding agent connected to your GitHub repo, which will review the full context, draft a code change, and create a Pull Request for your approval.
Our goal here is not to replace humans in the engineering process; but rather, to eliminate the tedious work of tracing a problem's root cause, hunting down typos, checking function syntax, and so on.
Engineers must still review and test the Pull Request before deployment. But there's no doubt, AI models are getting smarter all the time, meaning first drafts are getting better and better - and any time your engineers save can be spent on deeper, more profitable matters of project strategy and development.
Fix With AI is included in the main Alpaca plugin, which remains free and open-source.
It is an opt-in feature, requiring a cloud AI subscription or self-hosted alternative. Site owners can decide which users can see and use the Fix With AI button.
Notes
To begin with, Fix With AI will only support GitHub and Claude; but we plan to extend support to other platforms and models according to user demand.
Rareview gratefully acknowledges WordPress VIP’s Jake Spurlock, whose work on an agentic deployment template is an integral part of this solution.
